The ECB National Club Championship has reached the national stages with the top 16 cricket clubs in the country battling it out.
There are two Yorkshire clubs involved with Woodlands, of the Bradford Premier League, comfortably defeating South Northumberland to gain a home tie at Albert Terrace on Sunday 7 July.
Their opponents are Ormskirk Cricket Club, who currently lead the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition.
Woodlands are again showing their strength having been the first club to defend the White Rose Trophy in 2023 by beating Sheffield Collegiate at New Farnley. This season, they’ve only lost twice in all competitions (both to Townville).
Meanwhile, Tickhill of the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League won Group 2 with a 46-run victory over Wakefield Thornes.
For some sense of comparative form in league cricket, they sit third in the ECB Premier Division behind Wakefield Thornes and leaders Cleethorpes.
In this year’s National Club Championship, Tickhill’s impressive progress has seen victories over Woodhouse Grange, Richmondshire and York previously.
Their opponents in Round 4 are Northern CC who also play in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition and for added symmetry, they recently drew against away at Ormskirk.
The challenge for all of the remaining clubs is juggling league and cup commitments with a fit and firing squad, along with the drive for national recognition.
Since 2000, there have been three winners from Yorkshire in Sheffield Collegiate (2000), York (2012) and Richmondshire (2018).
The final in 2024 will be on Sunday 15 September at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
