Getting Set Up: Cawthorne Cricket Club
Mark Brook, Club Secretary at Cawthorne CC at the time, has shared his thoughts behind choosing Serious Cricket as a teamwear partner.
The leafy village club on Dark Lane to the West of Barnsley felt it was time to replace their coloured clothing and a chance to seek a new kit sponsor.
After initial research, Mark discovered Serious Cricket who sent through sample tops and trousers to get feedback from players and members.
There was opportunity to get a number of different designs mocked up, sent out to players before shortlisting. Cawthorne used the 3D Kit Builder on the website to adapt the look and get excited.
Mark told me: “It was easy to use, adding in sponsor logos, names and numbers on the rear of shirt to give personalisation that proved popular with the juniors.”
Cawthorne had secured a three-year kit sponsor deal with Harworth Group PLC to appear on the front of the shorts for the men’s squads and the adult women’s side, the Cobras.
“Serious Cricket sent us through some final mock-ups electronically of the kits which we then put to the players.
There was an overwhelming response to the final design chosen.”
He added: “The Ladies team wanted something slightly different in respect of colour so we settled on the pink/black design, which again fitted well with the Harworth company logo on the front, and the ladies team loved it.”
I agree that the end result was very impressive; I spotted the team shirt for Cawthorne Cobras on Facebook and it was just like a professional cricket team kit for England, Yorkshire or Northern Superchargers.
🏏 Here’s Cawthorne’s Team Store if you want a look…
Cawthorne opted for three separate team stores for adults, ladies and juniors with similar product lines but different sponsors at the time which was easy to organise.
What were Serious Cricket like to work with?
Mark said: “We were able to negotiate an initial discount on products available within the Team Stores with Serious Cricket which led to a number of orders being placed initially before the start of the 2023 season.
The team at Serious Cricket were easy to work with, very responsive to questions, design options and sending through electronic designs. They really made it as easy as possible for the club to get the right designs at a reasonable price. Feedback from players/ parents etc has been very positive in the main.
Personally, I would recommend clubs have a look at what Serious Cricket can offer if you are looking for new teamwear, I wouldn’t hesitate in going back to them if we needed to.”
New cricket teamwear brings a buzz to any club. Whether it’s pride in the shirt and making you feel confident on the pitch or comfort and style supporting from the pavilion, it’s an important part to get right.
For Cawthorne, 2024 promises to be a landmark year. The First Team are back in the Premier Division of the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League with new signings, while strengthening the Second Xi squad too, in their promotion push from Division Three.
Their Sunday Development XI in the Barnsley and District Cricket League offers a pathway for juniors to progress into open age cricket, and perhaps the Second XI in time.
It’s a decent-sized cricket club with a thriving junior section from under-nines to under-17s across the Barnsley & District Junior League.
The Women’s First Team is going from strength to strength and they’re currently in action in Group 1 of Huddersfield Indoor League, part of the West Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket League.
The Cobras are currently involved in the six-a-side competition at Huddersfield New College against the likes of Kirkheaton & Holmfirth before heading outdoors for league action in Spring.
Next steps?
Thanks to Cawthorne for that feedback. I know from visiting, it’s a picturesque place to watch a game of cricket with stellar teas and they also look the part in their kit!
