Cricket Yorkshire has linked up with The Cricketer to offer a fantastic competition prize. Who wants a framed county cricket print of Scarborough to adorn their office or home?
This idyllic scene of North Marine Road at Scarborough Cricket Club has been created exclusively for The Cricketer. The artwork, reminiscent of vintage railway posters, wonderfully captures the view from the deckchairs outside the marquee looking back at the famous pavilion.
Dare I say it, it reminds me of a certain book cover!
It is one of a set of four designs for sale, the others being Kennington Oval, Durham’s Riverside & the Sussex jewel that is Arundel.
The A3 print of Scarborough Cricket Club, on 280gsm paper, comes with a high-quality 20 x 16-inch black frame and white mount.

Glenn Bateman says
Best outground in the country to watch cricket
John Fuller says
Hi Glenn, no arguments from me. Arundel and Colwyn Bay are two others that spring to mind. Have you been to others?
Rob Zabrocky says
Does it come signed as well?
John Fuller says
Hey Rob, not by me! Don’t want to depreciate the value:) No, it goes to the winner directly from The Cricketer.
Really like the designs….
Lainey Robinson says
A fabulous ground with an atmosphere rarely found anywhere else.
Beautiful
John Fuller says
Hey Lainey, well said! We’re booked in for the first bit of the Festival. Always a season highlight 🙂
Yvonne Collins says
Best place to watch cricket. Have been several times and have not found anywhere better to watch Yorkshire CC play. My partner subscribes to The Cricketer and we love looking at the scores from all the ECB Premier Leagues.
John Fuller says
Hi Yvonne, good luck in the competition. It’s proved a popular one! Scarborough is very special though I like that York has got a chance and is also impressing.
I try to cover a range of club cricket here on the website but always have an eye on the Premier Leagues.
I do an annual round-up of transfers before the season starts which gets some interest.
David Stathers says
Cricket at its best by the seaside, great memories growing up going to the festival in the summer holidays.
John Fuller says
Thanks David – when I wrote my book on the festival, some of my favourite bits of research were interviewing fans from over the years and their experiences.
A few who go to Scarborough Cricket Club who’ve been going for well over a half a century!
David Stringer says
Great looking poster! Reminds me of the old ‘ ‘Railway Holiday’ art from the early 20th century. My family will be there again for the cricket festival later this year!
John Fuller says
Hi David, yes, I like the railway posters too and wouldn’t mind winning this prize myself! Enjoy the Festival when it swings round, I’ll be there too!
Doug Bentley says
This poster looks great! Cannot wait for the roses match this year.
John Fuller says
Thanks Doug – imagine if the weather behaves the Ross match at NMR will see a very decent crowd in.
Peter Blinston says
Its so good, Durham want to play there!
John Fuller says
Thanks Peter, good to see North Marine Road catering for lots of county cricket in 2020.
John Fuller says
Hi Peter – that’s true! I like that Scarborough Cricket Club are being enterprising and hosting lots of county cricket in 2020 and not all Yorkshire CCC.
Tony Metcalfe says
The best place in the world to watch cricket!
John Fuller says
Hi Tony, depends what you want from a game of cricket but I’m with you on that. Ticks all the boxes.
Mark Powley says
best place in the world for fish and chips and cricket. Off their this weekend for one of them and some bracing coastal walks!
John Fuller says
Enjoy the fish and chips Mark, do you have a favourite place?
John Fuller says
Hi Mark, how was the trip to Scarborough? Where do you go for fish and chips? I like the walk along the North Bay beach to the pub at Scalby Mills, past Sea Life.
Jeremy Broadhead says
Would absolutely love this , in my top 3 cricket grounds in the world with Ossett and Sydney , In no particular order
John Fuller says
Thanks Jeremy, I’ve been to Ossett for a T20 a few years back. Nice spot. I like the diversity of your top 3 and that 2 are in Yorkshire!
Phil Dodsworth says
I can guarantee if I win it will arrive in one piece & in perfect condition as (being a Postie) I deliver my own post!!
John Fuller says
Brilliant Phil!
Diane Lee says
Would be a good addition to my sons ‘mans cave ‘full of his cricketing memorabilia ?
John Fuller says
Hi Diane, curious about the cricket man cave now! What’s in there?!
Peter D says
Love the ground already booked my time off to go in June and August.. Love the articles too John.
John Fuller says
Good stuff Peter – and thanks for the feedback on the articles too. Glad you like them.
David says
Keep up the good work, John!
John Fuller says
Hi David, cheers for leaving a comment. Glad you like Cricket Yorkshire. No idea where the past decade has gone but plenty of coverage of Yorkshire cricket in that time!
Sue Beaver says
Our favourite ground love going there
John Fuller says
Hi Sue, you and many others I suspect…such a popular place to watch county cricket.
I booked my Festival trip in November, nice to have something to look forward to over the winter months!
Abbas dadhiwala says
Hey john . It’s a great competition and I hope to win . Brilliant picture . I still remember winning in 2012 a nice kippax bat . Hope to win again .
John Fuller says
Hi Abbas, thanks for the comment, good luck! Yes, that Kippax bat was a belter. Interesting to see how they’ve progressed since.
Enjoy your umpiring this season.
Bill Masters says
Great atmosphere to watch cricket and great to see all the young ones on the pitch at lunchtime.
John Fuller says
Hi Bill, it is absolutely the atmosphere, friendly, inclusive, relaxed…as I said in Last of the Summer Wickets, you hear conversations drift over from friends who only ever catch up at the Festival but slip back into chats again as if it were yesterday. I particularly like the tradition of allowing fans onto the outfield. People happily remember that kind of thing connecting them to cricket decades later.
Shaun Morris says
The picture just captures everything that is watching cricket at Scarborough
John Fuller says
Thanks Shaun, it does indeed. I can say that as I didn’t design it! It takes you instantly back to Scarborough Cricket Club which is no bad thing!
Julie Ann price says
I like watching cricket at Scarborough. A lovely day out.
The print would look good in our cricket pavilion.
John Fuller says
Hi Julie, I hope you and Westow CC are doing well. Good luck with the competition. It is incredibly popular but I like the idea of it hanging in a cricket club somewhere.
I’ll publish the winner next week. All the best for the cricket season. I see on Facebook you’re doing off-season/weekend ginger cake. Yum.
Bill Greenwood OBE says
No matter which County you support, Scarborough is recognised as being iconic,
John Fuller says
Hi Bill – good to hear from you. Iconic is absolutely the word. I tried to explain county cricket at Scarborough to non-cricket fans and it really needs a visit to see what all the fuss is about but then it captures you.
James Dixon says
Takes me back to my days as a young boy taking day trips to the coast watching Yorkshire and learning how to score with my dad
John Fuller says
Hi James, thanks for sharing that memory. Paper and pen…satisfyingly old-school…my Owzthat dice are close to hand all these years later.
I must explore more of that coastline, it’s magnificent. Do you score for a cricket team or just at a county game?
Sheena Batey says
Sums up what cricket is really all about
John Fuller says
Hi Sheena, thanks for commenting on Cricket Yorkshire. It does indeed. I almost want a collection of Scarborough Cricket Club posters from different angles so you’d get the tea room and the people hanging out the backs of houses watching the cricket!
Rachel Craig says
Have enjoyed some nice holidays in Scarborough. ‘Cricket, what is more English then cricket?” Nice picture / poster.
John Fuller says
Hey Rachel, not much would be my succinct answer to that question 🙂 I think it’s fashionable to trash seaside towns (sometimes with good reason) but it’s not just the cricket that draws me back to Scarborough again and again. My wife and I did the rail route along the beach last time. The ticket man on the platform was keeping an ear out for the scores from North Marine Road!
Jacqui Lomax says
I would love this for my living room. Lots of happy memories watching the cricket in Scarborough
John Fuller says
Hi Jacqui, fingers crossed! I think it would look superb in any living room or cricket clubhouse.
david waterworth says
Its a great place to watch cricket, and I can sneak off for some great fish and chips
John Fuller says
Hi David, thanks for entering the competition. Good luck – and where do you go for the best fish and chips?!
Chris Leadbetter says
You name it we all love it cricket always the best at nmr
John Fuller says
Hi Chris, there’s rarely a dull day. I know the pitch went through a spell decades back before they dug it up where it was lifeless and had high scores but it’s the opposite now. Decent contest between bat and ball but nowadays, it’s a right challenge for a batsman’s technique and so fast!
Brian Hepworth says
I got the book for Christmas. A fascinating read. Don’t judge a book by its cover? You’re safe to do so on this occasion – both are excellent!
John Fuller says
Thanks Brian – appreciate the feedback on the book. Best wishes, John.
John Fuller says
Hi Brian, thanks for entering this competition and also for mentioning Last of the Summer Wickets. I will pass the feedback on to Mrs Cricket Yorkshire about the cover! Glad you liked the read.
Andrew Kitson says
A proper way to watch Cricket ?
The feel good factor is always there and everyone is so friendly
John Fuller says
Hi Andrew, there’s always room for Test cricket and big stadiums but cricket at Scarborough captures the seaside/holiday relaxation. You’ve hit the nail on the head with friendly.
Charles Rowett says
Such a brilliant place to watch cricket. Yorkshire matches are one of the very best celebrations of county cricket in the country.
John Fuller says
Hi Charles, good to hear from you. It is indeed. There’s been so much drama at North Marine Road in recent years, you daren’t dash off for a pint or a slab of victoria sponge for fear of missing an entire innings!
Bring on the trans-Pennine rivalry in 2020.
Joe says
As a Whitby lad NMR is the only part of Scarborough I can bring myself to like publically.
John Fuller says
Hi Joe, thanks for the comment. I’m not as down on Scarborough as you but it’s a very different feel when you head over for a day or on holiday.
I’ve passed Whitby Cricket Club on the bus but not been to a match there yet.
Will Baines says
Done! NMR is my favourite ground to watch cricket, you are so close to the action and some great memories on and off the field there!
Sue Croxall says
This poster would look great in our clubhouse at Ossett CC
John Fuller says
Hi Sue, it would indeed…good luck! haven’t been back to Ossett for ages but all the best for the 2020 season.
John Fuller says
Hi Will, thanks for entering and good luck. Loads of interest in this one but I’ll be doing more Cricket Yorkshire competitions in 2020. Being close to the action is a really good point. I like to sit on the Popular Bank with my feet on the pitch to get the players’ perspective.
Sally Holmes says
The cricket season isn’t complete without at least 1 visit to NMR! No other ground comes close to Scarbs for atmosphere & friendliness.
John Fuller says
Hi Sally, completely agree…it is special…I tend to head to the Festival but the Roses game has thrown up a tempting additional game. Will keep an eye on the weather and head over on the train from Leeds.
Josie Mellor says
We love to visit as a family so we can combine a trip to the beautiful coastline with watching a too game of cricket.
John Fuller says
Hi Josie, I hear that a lot, a nice combination of beach, walks, eating out, entertainment and cricket.
I relax the moment I get there. I always make a point of getting down to the beach.
MO says
Brilliant picture of a brilliant place and great news there are more days play there in 2020, sea fret permitting!
John Fuller says
Hi Martin, thanks for the comment. Yes, great news there’s more cricket at Scarborough Cricket Club in future. Fond of the sea fret (not for too long!). Adds juice to the pitch and transforms the ground to a scene from a Dickens book.
Stew Molyneux says
Lovely ground.. All the best John and we will meet up. I am always free for a chat
John Fuller says
Hi Stew, it is a lovely ground and yes, let’s catch up. Hope all’s well with you in the world of cricket signings.
Adrian Bold says
I like the fabulous grounds and the atmosphere.
John Fuller says
Thanks Adrian, how would you describe the atmosphere? When there’s 4-5,000 in, it can feel like an amphitheatre.
Karen R says
It’s just a great friendly ground xx
John Fuller says
Hi Karen, isn’t it just? From the folk at the turnstiles to programme sellers and fans and everyone else inside all wanting to make it a day to remember.
Natalie Allison says
This is one of our special places Summer not complete without our few days watching cricket in Scarbados
John Fuller says
Thanks Natalie, I’m very fond of Scarbados myself. I heard a rumour a while back that there was to be a link-up with the Barbados Tourist Board so maybe ‘Scarbados’ will be doubly appropriate in the future.
Enjoy your cricket at North Marine Road in 2020!
Shaun Conway says
Now that’s a cracking image and brings back memories of our visits to Scarborough to watch Yorkshire play. It’d look great on my wall too ?
John Fuller says
Hi Shaun, it sure is – and good luck! Hope your photography work is going well this year too.
Shaun Conway says
Hi John, my photography life is exceptionally busy -how I long for some warm, dry, wind-free days.
Diane Hewson says
I’d love to win this for my father in law – he’s a Yorkshire member and loves his trips to Scarborough. He doesn’t have social media so I’ve entered instead. It would cheer him up through these cold months waiting for the cricket to restart – although he often tells me how cold he gets watching the matches!
Gary Ashton says
Cricket at Scarborough…..simply a wonderful experience !
