Thornton lose unbeaten record
In the Halifax Cricket League, Sowerby Bridge Church Institute 1st XI can reflect on a feather in their cap after defeating 2023 Premier Division champions Thornton.
Thornton 1st XI won the Treble last season and went undefeated in all competitions.
For SBCI, the three-wicket win at home and welcome 12pts came after Arun CK’s 5-37 helped to dismiss Thornton for 173. In reply, 63 from Thomas Wood before captain Simon Wood’s unbeaten 49 completed a famous win.
Breidyn Schaper stars for York
In the Premier Division of Yorkshire Premier League North, York (181-4) beat neighbours Clifton Alliance at The Vincent & Partners Alliance Cricket Ground.
Tom Bates (2-28) and Jonathan Moxon (1-15) struck but it was Breidyn Schaper (5-5) who caught the eye. With the bat, York then eased to a ten-point win as opener Luke Kilby struck 71 before Schaper (60) took over.
Elsewhere, Castleford (147) dismissed Driffield Town for 48 after winning the toss and electing to bat. David Wainwright (3-15) and Eddie Morrison (5-16) then ran through Driffield’s batting.
Easingwold, Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Harrogate all won too. After two rounds, Castleford, Harrogate and York all share 20pts while Driffield Town and Stamford Bridge occupy the relegation places.
Townville progress in Heavy Woollen Cup
Townville (99-4) dispatched Bradford & Bingley (98) at Wagon Lane with Sri Lankan off-spinner Dushan Vimukthi picking up 5-22. The visitors fell to 6-2 but Chris Holliday (45) steadied the ship and it is Townville who progress to the next round.
There were wins for Methley and New Farnley while Woodlands progress because Carlton conceded. At the time of writing on Bank Holiday Monday, Ossett had scored 248-8 away at Scholes with 101 from opener Wiliam Wade and 71 by Callum Geldart.
Sunday 12 May sees further fixtures with home ties at Burley-in-Wharfedale, Hoylandswaine, Pudsey Congs, Shellwy and Woodhouse Grange.
Ebberston triumph
In the Premier Division of the Scarborough Beckett Cricket League, reigning champions of the Premier Division Ebberston won away at Brompton by 42 runs.
Alex Machen’s 54 in the middle order set up a score of 127 with the hosts’ bowling led by James Bruce (3-28) and Dylan Nzvenga (3-12). Brompton were dismissed for 85 with Jonty Megginson claiming 5-23.
Mulgrave’s three-wicket win at Wykeham was the only other fixture in the top flight to take place with Staithes, Great Habton and Cayton all cancelled.
Highs and lows of Dales Council
It was all happening in the Dales Council as the start of May brought wickets and runs galore.
in Division A, Leeds Gladiators scored 453-4 batting first before dismissing Drighlington for 100 to win by 353 runs. (No Play-Cricket scorecard details).
Savile Stars (361-4) also notched up a hefty win by beating Cookridge (132) by 229 runs. Naseer Ahmed (104) set the tone before Muhammad Tosseef (194 not out) just ran out of time to reach his double hundred.
Nazam Arif (3-27) claimed early Cookridge wickets before Muhammad Tosseef (4-6) concluded an impressive all-round performance.
Cleethorpes, Tickhill & Thornes win
In the Premier Division of the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League, only three matches were possible last Saturday. Barnsley Woolley Miners (146) lost to Cleethorpes (147-4) by six wickets. Mayank Mishra (6-31) starred with the ball, assisted by Harry Clewett (3-46).
Tickhill (134-7) beat Shiregreen (132) by three wickets after winning the toss and electing to field first. Adi Sreedharan (5-32) impressed with the ball for Tickhill. Jim Morgan (41) then top-scored for the home side in the successful run chase.
Wakefield Thornes (116-5) beat Treeton (115) by five wickets. The visitors never got going as the wickets were shared around: Matthew Taylor (2-11), Sijomon Joseph (3-32) and Jawad Akhtar (3-13).
In Division 1 of the West Yorkshire Women & Girls Cricket League, Cricademia Academy beat Menston by eight wickets. Lydie Wykes-Templeman hit 62 not out in the successful run chase after C. Kariyawasars had finished with remarkable figures of 6 for 7.
Bradford Park Avenue Ladies (128-7) won at home by three wickets against North Halifax (127-7). Charlotte Kilvington’s 52 helped the visitors set a decent total (Emily Easingwood 3-22).
In reply, the Bradford side claimed the win thanks to Deepa Chukkapalli (31 not out). Kirstin Smith (3-15) and Leah Proctor (2-20) led the way with the ball but they just fell short.
Crossflatts (65-6) won at Ryshworth Park after bowling out Harrogate for 64. Sophie Buttery (2-3) and Hollie Kirtley (2-4) were the most economical although all the bowlers kept things tight.
At 38-4, Crossflatts were grateful to Qanita Inayat (39) for scoring the bulk of the runs to get them close. Harrogate’s bowlers shared the wickets to fall, Eleanor Adrian-Horrocks (2-23) & Holly Garton (2-16).
North Leeds won convincingly in Roundhay Park by 61 runs to defeat Pudsey St Lawrence. Home skipper Hattie Barnes struck 58 at the top of the order in their total of 152 at The Homestead. Erin Grange (5-14) impressed with the ball as Pudsey St Lawrence were dismissed for 91.
