CricketYorkshire.com is a cricket website business going places and on that journey, securing sponsorship deals with talented professional cricketers is part of the strategy to raise its profile.
I’m absolutely delighted that Cricket Yorkshire will be shirt sponsor and media partner of Leeds Bradford MCCU for the 2015 season.
Our distinctive green CY logo with the stump and bail will be on the shirt sleeves of the cricketers as they take on Sussex, Yorkshire and Lancashire as well as their other university fixtures.
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has funded six university cricket academies in England and Wales – the MCC Universities (MCCUs) – which I’ve long been an admirer of; particularly the exploits of Leeds Bradford MCCU.
The scheme allows talented cricketers to pursue their ambition to play cricket professionally whilst juggling the demands of gaining a degree.
Down the years, Leeds Bradford MCCU have gone from strength to strength winning university trophies, beating counties in first-class fixtures and last year, even representing England in the Red Bull Campus Cricket Finals.
Many of the current squad are on various counties’ radar (or already contracted) while past alumni include Steve Patterson (Yorkshire’s reliable seamer); Harry Gurney (Notts and England left-arm speedster) and Will Porterfield (current Ireland captain).
NEW LEEDS BRADFORD MCCU WEBSITE
As part of this partnership, Cricket Yorkshire has put together a new Leeds Bradford MCCU website and will act as a media partner to the squad during the summer, promoting their cricketing achievements on and off the field.
Go and check it out….the website is now live (it previously was offline for six months) and includes a preview of their opening Sussex CCC game, info on the 2015 squad and details about the MCCU scheme.
**Yorkshire play their first game of the English summer at Headingley from 7 April against Leeds Bradford MCCU in first-class fixture.**
