The Hunters Yorkshire Premier League North begins its 2020 season on Saturday 18 July with a 9-week season.
Get ready for a 1pm start (unless teams agree otherwise) and a 40-over contest with 10 over per bowler.
A couple of teams have decided not to play this format (Scarborough & Yorkshire Academy) so the remainder has been divided into a division of 10 playing all opposition either home or away.
Yorkshire Premier League North Teams
Acomb, Driffield Town, Castleford, Clifton Alliance, Dunnington, Harrogate, Sheffield Hutton Bridge, Stamford Bridge, Woodhouse Grange, York.
I have heard from Scarborough Cricket Club about their 1st XI absence and there simply weren’t enough players who made themselves available to fill both squads.
There was also a concern of arranging transport with the issue of car sharing in the context of Covid-19.
Scarborough to Castleford (66 miles) is a decent trek and while I haven’t talked to Yorkshire Academy, it could also have been in their thinking.
*Update – Editor’s Note: I’ve since been informed that Academy players are deemed ‘elite sportsmen’ (as there may be the chance for them to play at 2nd XI county cricket or above).
Therefore under current ECB/Government guidance, they cannot mix with recreational cricketers in order to preserve their elite status.
Instead, Scarborough are entering a team in the Scarborough Beckett League to ensure there are games for those that want them but less travel in a more regionalised league.
Yorkshire Champion Club of 2019 Sheriff Hutton Bridge begin their new season with an away trip to York to get things off to a lively start!

Yorkshire Premier League North Transfers
Each year, I include the transfers from all four Premier Leagues. As you’d expect, there is a fair bit of upheaval for 2020, particularly regarding overseas signings.
It’s not clear who will be making themselves available for each club.
That said, it’s always something that Cricket Yorkshire readers say they like so I’ve included the transfer moves who so you can assess who’s strengthened their squads.
