Yorkshire’s regional finalists of the Voneus National Village Cup are confirmed as Frickley Colliery, Addingham and Folkton & Flixton.
Round 5 of the competition is on 23 June with the start of the national rounds.
Frickley Colliery defeated Streethouse by 7 runs to win West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire & Humberside – Group 5. Their reward is an away trip to Stocksfield, a village next to the River Tyne, West of Newcastle.
In terms of where sides playing their league cricket, Frickley Colliery are tussling with Oulton at the top of the Premier Division in the Pontefract & District Cricket League.
in North Yorkshire (North) – Group 3, Folkton & Flixton travelled to Woodhouse Grange on 9 June and defeated the most successful side in the Village Cup by seven wickets. Elliot Hatton’s 127 off 75 balls got them home comfortably.
(Folkton & Flixton are in Championship East division of the Yorkshire Premier League North).
Folkton & Flixton’s opponents will head to Alvanley, a few miles outside Chester, who beat Hawk Green by one wicket.
Meanwhile, North Yorkshire South Group winners were Addingham who had travelled to Broughton of Lincolnshire and won by 123 runs. They now face Scotland’s winners, Falkland, here in Yorkshire.
(Addingham are in Division 1 of the Aire-Wharfe League).
It’s notable that the regional winners are all new from last year when they were Ackworth, Woodhouse Grange and Patrington.
Good luck to Yorkshire’s villages as the road to Lord’s reaches a step closer.
